Background of the Study

IT compliance regulations are critical for ensuring that organizations adhere to legal and ethical standards in the use of technology. For telecommunications firms, compliance involves adhering to data protection laws, cybersecurity policies, and industry-specific regulations. These frameworks help safeguard customer data, ensure service reliability, and maintain public trust (Okoro & Ibrahim, 2024).

In Taraba State, telecommunications firms must navigate a complex regulatory environment while developing organizational policies that align with compliance requirements. This study evaluates the role of IT compliance regulations and organizational policies in ensuring operational integrity and customer trust.

Statement of the Problem

Non-compliance with IT regulations exposes telecommunications firms in Taraba State to legal risks, financial penalties, and reputational damage. However, many firms face challenges in aligning their internal policies with regulatory frameworks, often due to limited expertise, inadequate resources, and evolving compliance requirements. This study investigates the relationship between IT compliance and organizational policies in achieving regulatory adherence.

Objectives of the Study

  1. To assess the impact of IT compliance regulations on the operations of telecommunications firms in Taraba State.
  2. To evaluate the alignment of organizational policies with IT compliance requirements.
  3. To identify challenges in achieving IT compliance among telecommunications firms.

Research Questions

  1. How do IT compliance regulations impact the operations of telecommunications firms in Taraba State?
  2. To what extent do organizational policies align with IT compliance requirements?
  3. What challenges do telecommunications firms face in achieving IT compliance?

Research Hypotheses

  1. IT compliance regulations do not significantly impact the operations of telecommunications firms in Taraba State.
  2. Organizational policies do not significantly align with IT compliance requirements.
  3. Challenges in achieving IT compliance do not significantly affect regulatory adherence.

Scope and Limitations of the Study

The study focuses on telecommunications firms in Taraba State operating between 2023 and 2025. Limitations include potential resistance from firms in disclosing compliance data and variations in regulatory interpretations.
